Sleep Story for Overthinking Mind: How I Finally Quiet My Thoughts at 2 AM
I know what it feels like when
your body is tired, but your mind is running a full marathon at 2 AM.
For a long time, that was my
every night. I would lie down, close my eyes, and suddenly my brain would start
playing every conversation, every mistake, every to-do list for tomorrow. That
is what an overthinking mind does. It never lets you sleep peacefully.
This is my real story of how I
learned to put my overthinking mind to sleep naturally.
It started last winter. I would
go to bed at 11 PM, but I would still be awake at 2:30 AM.
I would think about small
things. Did I reply to that email? Why did I say that thing 3 years ago? What
if I fail tomorrow?
My heart would beat fast. I
tried counting sheep, scrolling my phone, even drinking warm milk. Nothing
worked because my mind was not tired, only my body was.
I knew I didn't want sleeping
pills. I wanted a natural way to calm my mind.
Before I found my story method,
I tried many things:
1. Listening to music: It made
me think more about the lyrics.
2. Watching rain videos on YouTube: My eyes
got tired but my mind was still active.
3. Forcing myself to sleep: The more I forced,
the more I stayed awake.
Then my grandmother told me one simple thing.
She said, "Don't fight your thoughts. Give them a different story to
follow."
So I created my own 5-minute
sleep story. I call it "The Train of Thoughts" story.
Here is how I do it. You can
try it tonight.
I close my eyes and imagine I
am sitting at a quiet, empty railway station at night. It is not dark or scary.
It is peaceful. There is a warm yellow light.
Then I see a train coming
slowly. This train is very long.
I tell my mind, every
overthinking thought is a box on this train.
The first box is
"Tomorrow's work." I see it, I read its name, and I put it on the
train. I say in my mind, "Okay, you can go now."
The second box is "That
awkward conversation." I put it on the train too.
I don't argue with the boxes. I
don't open them. I just name them and put them on the train.
Slowly, the train starts
moving. I watch it go away from the station. I can hear the soft sound of the
train... chuk chuk... chuk chuk...
As the train goes far, the
station becomes more and more quiet. And in that quietness, I fall asleep.
Most nights, I fall asleep
before the train even leaves the station.
Overthinking mind needs
something to follow. When you give it a train story, your mind stops jumping
from one thought to another. It only follows the train.
You are not fighting your
thoughts. You are just putting them on the train and letting them go. That is
why this sleep story for overthinking mind works so well.
It is simple, natural and you
can do it every night without any app, without a
ny medicine.
The story works best with a
small routine. This is what I do now every night:
1. No phone after 10:30 PM: I
put my phone on charge in another room. This is the most important step for an
overthinking mind.
2. Warm Chamomile Tea: I make a
light tea, no sugar. It signals my body that the day is over.
3. Write for 3 Minutes: I keep
a small notebook. I write down 3 things that are in my mind. Just writing them
makes them lighter.
4. The Train Story: Then I lie
down and do my train story.
I do this every night, and now I fall asleep within 15 minutes.
Don't try to make it perfect.
Just try it once tonight.
If you are an overthinker like me, please
remember you are not alone. Your mind is active because you care a lot. But
nighttime is not for solving problems. Nighttime is for resting.
Try this sleep story for
overthinking mind tonight. Don't try to make it perfect. Just give your
thoughts a train to board.
Let me know in the comments if
it helped you sleep.

Q: Does this story work for
everyone?
Yes, it works for overthinkers
who can't stop thinking at night. Try it for 7 nights, you will see difference.
For me it takes 15 minutes. For
you it may take 20 minutes in start, but slowly it becomes fast.
Yes, I do it every night. It is
natural, no side effect, no medicine.
Then try writing your thoughts
for 3 minutes before sleep, then do train story again. It will work.
